GridFusion energy management

Understand, control and locally optimize energy flows.

Local FirstModularIntelligent

A local energy management system for the whole home

A solar installation, battery storage, household consumption and the electricity grid all provide separate readings. GridFusion brings them together in one shared, vendor-neutral energy model. The result is more than another monitoring screen: it is the foundation for a home energy management system (HEMS) that can understand relationships, explain decisions and coordinate energy safely on site.

Control 7 is at the centre of the system. The local 7-inch touchscreen has its own computing and storage platform. It collects available measurements, normalises device states and presents energy flow, history, prices, forecasts and system health in one interface. External services may supply electricity prices, weather data, solar forecasts or managed updates. Local measurement and safety decisions remain independent of those services.

Why separate apps do not make an energy system

Many homes use a different app for the inverter, battery, smart meter and dynamic electricity tariff. Each application sees only part of the picture: the meter knows the grid connection, the battery knows its state of charge and the inverter knows solar production. A useful decision requires those values to be evaluated together and at the correct point in time.

GridFusion creates a clear boundary for that work. Vendor protocols remain inside separate device drivers. The core only uses normalised roles and capabilities such as meter, battery, inverter or solar generator. The energy management system can therefore gain additional device support step by step without allowing one brand to define the entire architecture.

  • Transparency: generation, consumption, battery and grid appear in one energy flow.
  • Traceability: states and decisions can be reviewed in the dashboard, history and diagnostics.
  • Extensibility: every new device receives a separate driver verified against vendor sources.
  • Safety: invalid or stale metering data never causes a new battery command.

Local First: control stays inside the building

GridFusion follows a Local First architecture. Essential acquisition, state building and control decisions run on Control 7 in the local network. An internet outage must not make local self-consumption logic dependent on a remote platform. The central platform adds external data and managed services where useful; it replaces neither the local Energy Engine nor its safety boundaries.

Local First does not mean that every feature works entirely without internet access. Dynamic electricity prices, weather forecasts, central backup and managed firmware updates require a connection to their respective services. If that information is missing or no longer fresh, GridFusion exposes a clear state and uses safe fallbacks. External information must never block local device control synchronously.

Storage follows the same principle. GridFusion is designed to continue operating without an SD card. Acquisition, control and the user interface do not wait for filesystem or database operations. Historical records enter the Storage Manager through a bounded queue; with a suitable SD card, SQLite is the primary long-term store, while a bounded and protected local fallback remains available without it.

What GridFusion is intended to improve

Intelligent energy management can do more than display the current number of watts. It should evaluate solar surplus, available battery space, expected consumption and variable price intervals together. This creates understandable and bounded guidance: use local generation now, preserve battery capacity for expected solar production, or wait when a later electricity-price window is more suitable.

Actual savings depend on the installation, tariff, consumption profile, efficiency and weather. GridFusion therefore makes no blanket savings claim. Its goal is a dependable data foundation on which decisions can be understood and later compared with real results.

The complete path from a measurement to a safe decision is described under energy management for solar and battery storage. The feature overview distinguishes implemented, pilot and planned capabilities.

The installations GridFusion is designed for

GridFusion initially targets homes and small sites with photovoltaics, battery storage and a measurable grid connection. It is especially relevant when components do not all belong to one closed vendor ecosystem, or when live readings need to be combined with local history, diagnostics, dynamic prices and forecasts.

Support is never promised from a brand name alone. The exact model, documented interface, available capabilities and electrical integration matter. Compatibility and device integrations explains the current reference status and why a similar product name is not an automatic approval.

Transparent development instead of premature promises

GridFusion is an advanced development and pilot system, not yet a generally released series product. The local dashboard, vendor-neutral device layer, history and diagnostics, as well as central price, weather, forecast and OTA services, are implemented system components. The first real reference installation uses Shelly Pro 3EM and Solakon ONE.

Controlled Solakon operation remains a particularly protected development area. Every vendor-specific write must pass one central Safety Gate. Normal firmware does not automatically enable those write capabilities. Documented endurance, outage and supervised hardware tests are still required before wider approval.

Additional pilot installations are therefore valuable. They provide different normalised measurement histories and show which drivers should be developed next using official sources. Owners of a suitable installation can use the pilot enquiry to provide model names, available metering and their objectives—without sending credentials or secrets by email.
